Return of the Bell of Batoche was written to commemorate the "Return of the Bell" ceremony that took place on July 20, 2013, in Batoche, Saskatchewan. Stolen from the Batoche church during the Resistance of 1885, the Bell of Batoche was returned to the Métis people.

The Return of the Bell of Batoche
By Andrea Menard and Robert Walsh, June 2013
Way hey hey hiyo hey Way hey hey hiyo,
Way hey hey hiyo, Way hey hey hiya hey
(Home) Way hey hey hiyo,
(Home) Way hey hey hiyo,
(I am home) Way hey hey hiyo hey
(Home) Way hey hey hiya,
(Home) way hey hey hiya,
(I am home) Way hey hey hiya hi
A long time ago I was made to toll
For the children of Land and Sea
But the Michif spirit infused my soul
And now I’m more than I was made to be
I am more than a tale of a stolen bell
I am more than a trophy of war
I am meant to ring out in the open air
And I’m free to sing once more
A beautiful dream lives on
A hundred years of silence is broken today
In the land of my people I cry out at dawn
I am home… home where I belong
I was stolen away like the Métis voice
Imprisoned by anger and fear
But I’ve found my way - I’ve broken free
I knew one day we’d gather right here (Marie Antoinette)
Once I walked through fire I cracked open wide
Like the hearts of you women and men
Whose hands have healed me with patience and love
I will sing for my nation again
A beautiful dream lives on
A hundred years of silence is broken today
In the land of my people I cry out at dawn
I am home, Home …
A beautiful dream lives on
A hundred years of silence is broken today
In the land of my people I cry out at dawn
I am home…home where I belong
Way hey hey hiya, (Home) way hey hey hiya, (Home)
Way hey hey hiya hi (Home where I belong)
Way hey hey hiya, (Home) way hey hey hiya, (Home)
Way hey hey hiya hi (Home where I belong)
Way hey hey hiya, (Home) way hey hey hiya, (Home)
Way hey hey hiya hi (Home where I belong)
